A number of strategies are available which helps to play roulette effectively and be a champion.
One of the oldest and most common strategies is the Martingale roulette betting system. It is very simple to understand and is applied mostly to even money bets. According to this betting system, a even money bet is placed on either the red/black, high numbers (19-36), low numbers (1-18) or odd/even numbers. On winning, even bets have payouts 1:1. But in case you lose, the bet gets doubled.
The Anti-Martingale is a roulette strategy which if you win, then you double the bet and if you win again then you double the bet again. If you lose, you return to your first betting level.
Another popular roulette strategy is the D’ Alembert betting system according to which a player should remove a chip after each winning bet, since the chances of losing increases with each win. The player adds a chip after each loss also. This roulette strategy is based on the theory that the roulette wins and losses eventually come into balance.
Another strategy is the maximum boldest i.e. take your entire bankroll and bet on either the red or the black. Your odds are 47% chance to win.
Another roulette strategy is to go for a wheel which has a "surrender" option. It will automatically reduce your chances of a loss because the surrender option makes it possible for the player to only lose half of the money wagered on even money. The winning number here is either a zero or a double zero.
Another popular strategy is to use a positive progression on betting i.e. placing straight up bets. The player places bet on a group of single numbers straight up which pays at 35-1. The positive progression of betting is one of the roulette strategies used by most players.
While not all roulette strategies work all the time, by learning how each betting system works, you can improve your odds of have a big win.
